Read Across America day is this Friday. Our school is celebrating all month. This is the time when parents and guardians get roped into guest reading at their children's schools. Personally, I'd rather read to 500 kids than speak in front of 15 adults. I know not everyone feels that way. I've "voluntold" my husband he has to guest read quite a few times. Dr. Seuss is typically a favorite on this day, but I like to read other books that showcase authors that kids may not know about! Here are a few of my tried and true favorites and some new ones I can't wait to read to my students.
My Mouth is a Volcano
I had my husband read this one and afterwards he asked if it was a hint for him. Its great for upper elementary and a funny book about having to learn when to be a good listener.
The Good Egg
I've never had a kid say they didn't like this book (or this series). Super cute, relatable book with a character that is easy to draw. Major plus! Perfect for grades K-2. This book is free with kindle unlimited and linked here. https://amzn.to/4ceFsx0
The Great Letter Rebellion
I can't wait to read this to my kindergarten group. The letters rebel and don't think their order is fair. If you have ever spent any time with littles, being first is a big deal. This book has a lot of great puns and jokes about the alphabet and is a cute way to review letter names, sounds, and rhyming words. Here's the link. https://amzn.to/3VpxbjV
Dragons Love Tacos
I have read this book so many times I think I have it memorized. Great book for all ages and always a crowd pleaser. There is also a sequel! https://amzn.to/3TIOtYb
